How to get them!

for dark chao, treat it with a dark character until it goes to a blue cacoon. you can abuse it with a hero character, but i'd rather not. shadow, rouge and eggman are dark. dark have spike balls.

Hero chao, do the same thing as dark except with hero characters. Sonic, tails, knux are hero. hero have halos.

Normal chao, really called nuetral, keep petting with both sides until blue cacoon. it will have a normal ball on it's head.

I had to feed my chao until level 12 in stamina so it would go into the cocoon and turn into a Dark chao.

Neutural is the chao needed to get a twotone.But you can see information abot twotones in "Twotones"
